Due to the huge amount of initiatives for John Cage's birth centennial (1912-2012) celebrations, you can find in this page a list of homages to John Cage that took place in Italy. In spite of its lack of completeness, I hope to slowly make this area comprehensive, so this section must be regarded as a continuously evolving one.

From July 11th to September 5th 2012, MUSMA musical festival, Dal segno al suono. Dal suono al segno (From sign to sound. From sound to sign), dedicates a rich program to American composer John Cage (Los Angeles, 1912 - New York, 1992) on the occasion of his 100th birth anniversary. Gianni Lenoci presents his Musicircus for John Cage. I MAKE presents the multimedia happening conceived by the great American composer in the 60's and curated by the well-known artist from Puglia. The main feature of Romaeuropa Festival 2012 is the celebration of the triple anniversary of John Cage: 100 years from his birth, 20 from his death, 60 from his most famous compistion, 4'33''. The personality of the American composer who had influenced music the most stimulates new works, such as the prepared dance of Portuguese choreographer Rui Horta, the performance of two historical pieces of his in two concerts at Palladium, featuring the Contempoart and Per John Cage ensembles, a series of movies, videos and footage of performances –curated by Marco Maria Gazzano- where the collaboration between Cage and Nam June Paik and Fluxus emerges.

One act intermezzo for John Cage's centennial, by Carlo Boccadoro. The play, which will be staged for the first time, is based on a libretto that Giuseppe Di Leva created around John Cage's famous participation at the Italian quiz show Lascia o raddoppia?, hosted by Mike Bongiorno.

John Cage's piece will be performed first by the children (6pm) attending the creative music course, followed by an 'adult' performance (8pm) by skilled musicians. These guest musicians, belonging to diverse musical styles, will play the scores drawn, according to Cage's instructions, by the children. Curated by Antonio Mainenti.
