Dopo Silenzio e Per gli uccelli finalmente un altro libro di John Cage tradotto in italiano: Parole vuote, scritti ’73-’78 (Empty Words), edito da Orthotes Editrice.

Il volume è stato a cura di Fernando Vincenzi e Antonella Carosini, traduzione di Antonella Carosini. In quest’opera letteraria, d’arte visiva e musicale, Cage conduce il lettore in un affascinante e coraggioso viaggio tra i Diari di Thoreau, letti ricorrendo a operazioni casuali generate con l’I Ching, tra complessi “mesostici” ideati sul nome di James Joyce attraverso il Finnegans Wake, raccontando di come nacque l’idea del “pianoforte preparato”, e di quale, secondo lui, sarebbe stato il futuro della musica. Un libro da scoprire, da guardare (per la presenza di innumerevoli disegni dello stesso Cage), da leggere e rileggere per conquistare nuovi territori di senso, e per lasciarsi inondare da un mare di parole vuote (dal sito Orthotes Editrice).

The volume is curated by Fernando Vincenzi and Antonella Carosini, translation by Antonella Carosini. In this literary, musical and visual work, Cage guides the reader through Thoreau’s Diary, manipulated by means of chance operations obtained with the I-Ching, complex mesostics composed around James Joyce’s name through his Finnegan’s Wake, narrating how the preparaed piano was born, and which in his opinion the future of music would have been. A book to explore, to look at (due to the many drawings by Cage himself), to read over and over to find new meanings, and to drown in a sea of empty words (from Orthotes Editrice‘s website).
